Re: Zenith carb not idling

Hi Chaps, thanks for the replies. the carb has been thoroughly cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner, I've checked all the jets and apart from the slots being well used they all appear clear. the Idle mixture screws are in good condition apart from the springs but I've ordered replacements anyway. Zenith carb not idling

Hi Chaps, I've had a poke through old posts and many have had the same issues I'm having at the moment but no clear answers so here goes... I've had issues with Hemi running erratically stalling and poor idle, the carb was in a mess and leaking petrol from the baseplate shaft - the seals in there we...

Re: Hemi the Haff.

Slow progress... IMG_5867.JPG Carb is refurbished and back on, and Hemi is running again albeit badly, anyone have a starting point for the slow running screws? - the manual is a little sparse on the details. On the bright side I've fitted a new higher output viper resin filled coil, I got it from a...

Re: Hemi the Haff.

I'd love to strip it over the coming winter, however I want to start with a vehicle that is running and driving so I know about any issues before I start separating the tube and running gear from the platform, although I'll probably get it running and run around it it as is, I'm not one for polish I...

Re: Hemi the Haff.

I know I think I'm subconsciously finding smaller jobs to do while avoiding lifting the platform to get at the shift turret to fix the sloppy linkage and lack of reverse.
The weather is perfect for hooning about in a topless haf at the moment also. ;)

Re: Hemi the Haff.

While I was waiting for some parts for the Carb I decided to tackle the rest of the accelerator linkage as I had already snapped the ball joint on the long control rod from the accelerator pedal and the whole assembly had loads of play and was generally worn. I decided to make a new rod from 6mm Sta...

Re: Hemi the Haff.

Hi chaps, I've not made much progress due to work and holidays but managed to have a fiddle and clean up the Carb - its come up a treat apart from the pump rod I broke and the 2 screws from the top cover that have magically disappeared.
It seems the base is made of either brass or bronze.

Re: Hemi the Haff.

I was going to say I own a land rover, a triumph motorbike and the Haf so weekly greasy bits bills are nothing new, however the truth is they own me.

Re: Hemi the Haff.

Sometimes I wonder what I was thinking... while waiting for the parts to turn up to fix the ultrasonic bath so I can clean up the carb I thought I'd clean up and free up the linkages attached to the carb. It took me over an hour to get the front control rod linkages off as the split pins had rusted ...

Re: Hemi the Haff.

Thanks - good point on the jets I'll give them a good look over, I'll be at the Treffen but I don't have a trailer to bring Hemi - though a I could bring it in a couple of crates in the back of the landrover :D

Re: Hemi the Haff.

I've decided to give up on the reverse issue for the moment and pick on the erratic idle instead as I am able to get at all the parts involved and there's very little that can beat knowing a problem and fixing it without it dragging on or costing a packet..! - I suspect fixing the Carb will be satis...

Re: Hemi the Haff.

Hi All, Just a small update to Hemi, I've been fretting over the sloppy gear change made worse by the work I've done on the gear lever but at least that looks clean, the lever casting along the rim is chipped in the position of reverse - I may replace that in the distant future. However it seems I h...

OK chaps Hemi is out of the storage locker and getting some small jobs done During my longest drive to date (10miles) Oh yeah... :D I noticed it had become incontinent and was dripping oil from the bellhousing drain hole :( - I assume its a drain hole however it is threaded - I cant see the need for...

Re: Exhaust sealant

As a side note, for exhaust assembly I use "Loctite High Temp Exhaust Silicone Sealant Copper 5990" for assembling exhaust joints It doesn't breakup like Gun Gum and is great for gap filling. Linky: https://www.halfords.com/tools/garage-equipment/head-gasket-and-exhaust-repairs/loctite-599...

Re: Zenith Carb springs

Thanks chaps I'll keep what I have, but will tidy it up somewhat with new springs and tabs to locate the springs so they are Linear. A colleague at work is in the process of buying an industrial ultrasonic parts cleaner for his Dept. and has asked me to spec it up for him, I suspect the original req...

Re: Fuel Filters

As Garry has said ^^ Also if you have a low pressure but high volume electric fuel pump fitted, when the float bowl is full the fuel delivery is stopped by the float valve and you will see the fuel filter fill up then drain as the floats drop and valve open. I've disconnected the electric pump the P...

Zenith Carb springs

Hi chaps, It's been awhile since I've had the opportunity to work on the Haf due to my landrover eating a valve and destroying the engine - cue new engine :( then 6 month old Turbo shit the bed on the new engine due to (I suspect) ingesting slivers of Ali head that stuck to the impellor fins - so wh...
