I still have plenty of VIN (all versions), US Conformance (Pathfinder), Difflock, Front Wheel Drive, and Throttle-Choke plates.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Wanted: Dual speed windscreen wiper motor for Haflinger
Hi John, Wiper motor from a 1969 VW Bettle is the 2-speed version of our Haflinger's wiper motor. The VW version uses a slightly diferent bell crank arm which is easily swapped out for the Haflinger version. Only the 1971 & newer US Pathfinder model used the 2-speed wiper. These US Pathfinders a...

Re: piston to bore clearance
question to any one out there who has rebuilt one of these things before, i have recived a set of 80.5mm pistons from haflinger technik and have my barrels at the local machine shop and are ready to be bored out. but,, it clearly says in the manual that it should have a piston to bore clearance of ...

Re: Handbrake Lever Position
Thanks Garry. I'm glad I'm not prone to developing a complex from the "size matters" comments and having a laugh at my short handle, lol. I suspect that the longer brake lever was a case of whatever became available on the day of manufacture. Here is a late 1972 production Canadian model t...

Re: Handbrake Lever Position
Hi John, Based on your photos I would have to say with all certainty that the interference issue is entirely relative to the gear selector adjustments and not at all related to your hand brake. I have had several Haflingers in my lifetime and none ever showed the position that yours has when in 1st ...

Re: Handbrake Lever Position
Here are a couple more photos of my 1969's hand brake. It measures 300mm from end-to-end of the lever. With the gear selector in 1st and the brake handle raised there is approx. 90mm clearance between the selector knob and the tip of the brake lever. The clearance is only slightly less when the hand...

Re: Handbrake Lever Position
Hi Garry,
No my truck is definitely in 1st gear in my photo. I think Julian has the best explanation in that you have the lever from a Fiat 500 in your Haf. I would look at replacing the lever with the correct model or shortening the current lever if I had this problem in my truck.

Re: Handbrake Lever Position
Hi Garry & John, I read your posts in this topic and must say I am quite perplexed as to how you have this issue with the gear selector and hand brake lever interfering. I have never encountered this with any Haflinger. As you can see in this photo of my truck with the gear selector in 1st there...

Re: Paint code for the Red common on NA Spec Haflingers
Does anyone have a modern paint code that is a good match for the red that is common in Canadian Haflingers? Hi tpond, There are two correct answers to your question depending on the year of your Canadian spec Haflinger. 1) Pre-1968 is Audi Code LA3A "Mars Red 80" 2) 1968 & Up is Audi...

Re: Low compression
Hi Garry, Like Kerry said, I have not used sealant between the barrel and crankcase either and have had no problems. I would be concerned that even the thinnest layer would be a hydraulic barrier that would prevent normal expansion of the barrel's flange when hot thus a tight bore at the bottom and ...

Re: Low compression
Hi Garry, As Jim LaGuardia has stated, there appears to be no loss of lubrication as a secondary result of excess engine temperature. If this were the case I would expect to see significant scoring & discolouring on the piston skirts. Regardless of your pistons being cast (as opposed to forged) ...

Re: Low compression
Hi Garry, Only two things that I know of will cause the piston damage that you've shown us. Either or a combination of both these are appropriate as you say these are Mahle pistons and so they are forged type. 1) The bore clearance is too tight. Forged pistons require greater bore relief as they exp...

Hi Garry, Wild horses couldn't drag me away from that auction if I were in your place. I think the LWB with the lettering on the doors may have been featured in a car review magazine when it was new. Hi John & Others, I hope you can all appreciate a very different point of view on the for better or worse aspects of the Haflinger design. I resisted for a while in participating in this thread for fear that my post might not be taken in the spirit it is intended. As some of you know, my history...

Re: Zenith Carby Gasket
Hi Garry & Kerry, You fella's have got me curious now about the embedded copper ring that is in my cylinder heads. This engine is the original in my 1969 Canadian spec Haf. The discovery of these rings was a bit of a surprise to me at the time of engine rebuild and I recall thinking I was very g...

Re: Zenith Carby Gasket
The barrel ideally just presses into the crankcase - handtight - same with the head - there is no gasket. Hi Garry & John, Actually the Haf engine does have something of a "head gasket". The top rim of the combustion chamber has a copper seating surface for the barrel flange to seal a...

Re: Zenith Carby Gasket
Hi Garry,
This is likely a foolish question but do you know if the ring gaps were properly adjusted during the last engine rebuild? Are the pistons you are using forged or cast? This makes a difference to ring gap. If the gap was too tight you could end up with a broken ring.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Canvas frame
Hi John, I wish we could post PDF files on this forum as it would make explanations much easier. If you go to Jim LaGuardia's Goatwerks website you can download the illustrated parts manual. Page 2612/0 of the parts manual is the diagram of the hood sticks for the LWB trucks. I've placed a low-res i...
