Re: Canvas frame
Hi John, Sorry I don't have any detail for the extension pieces needed for a LWB. They should be approx. 300mm long given the difference in platform and wheelbase length. You may be able to get the info from Dale at Haflinger Technik as he likely has a set for LWB. The sections are not very expensiv...

Re: Doors and soft tops
Would love to find a set of rear doors, but will end up just making reproduction. Hi Jim (and everyone else), I have created CAD drawings of the left and right side rear door frames. I can email a .PDF file to anyone who wants a copy. Send me a PM and let me know your direct email address to receiv...

Hi Jim (Callahan),
I'm glad to see you've posted my sketch and dimensions of the hood sticks for use by others. By all means go ahead and post the photos as well as I'm sure they are helpful when looking at the sketch.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Jim,
Good point about Garry's coil, I had thought about that too but forgot to mention it earlier. Like I had said I have very limited faith in solid state devices, especially in automobiles, so the module came to mind first.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Zenith Carby Gasket
You could be right about the ignition module breaking down but one of the reason I went that way was to get some reliability into the ignition as I know the condenser was suspect. The module has only covered about 800km so I hope it is still OK. Hi Garry, The way your luck has run with your Haf you...

Re: Zenith Carby Gasket
- it runs, is as capable as the Haffie and more robust. Hi Garry, Don't give up, you'll sort it out. It's a bit more challenging with your Haf as it has undergone several "unproven" modifications prior to your ownership but you'll overcome these issues eventually. If you've reinstalled th...

Re: Zenith Carby Gasket
Hi Garry, I've been following your thread and have a few items for you to consider. 1) Do you know what your engine oil temperature is running at now that the ambient temps have risen? You may have some over heating issues now that your "high output" engine is running at full potential wit...

Re: Doors and soft tops
I also have found steel tubing that matches the original frames perfectly. I'll post the specs on the tubing shortly. It comes from the hydraulics industry and is relatively inexpensive. Sorry for the delay getting this posted. The proper tubing dimensions are 16mm O.D. with 2mm wall thickness and ...

Would love to find a set of rear doors, but will end up just making reproduction. Hi Jim, I'd forgotten about sending you that door hardware set. Nice to see it going to good use :D I have a set of rear door frames that I can use to give any dimensions you may need to reproduce a set. Give me a lit...

Re: Drive shaft to UJ oil seal
Hi John, Hopefully the oil additive will solve the leak but if you find that the seal or deflector shank has excess wear that is not due to oil contamination or installation issues then carefully inspect the axle shaft for axial runout. Look for the following conditions: 1) Bent axle shaft 2) Unbala...

Re: Drive shaft to UJ oil seal
Hi John, A few things for your oil leak issue, the placement of the hub seal allows for a fair bit of depth adjustment so you may be able to seat the seal so that it will have a better (tighter) fit on the deflection sleeve. If the parts you used were new from a Haflinger supply source then I would ...

Re: Looking for a few more assemblies..
Hi Mike, When I restored my truck I was on the same quest as you are now. I managed to find NOS rear seat lids from a private seller in Austria with help from Leonardo Castiglione. They weren't cheap but it was my only hope as everything else I found in NA was too rusted out. For the fuel tank I bou...

Re: Oily spark plug
Hi Yakov, If the platform is still on the chassis you will have to remove the engine from the chassis to remove the cylinder heads. Before you can remove the cylinder heads you need to remove the pushrods. Rotate the crankshaft till both the intake and exhaust valves are closed. Back the tappet adju...

Re: Shock absorbers
Can anyone let me know of any brands/models of dual valve shocks that will fit the Haflinger. Hi Doug, The original shocks were made by Sachs. These are still available under the Sachs brand name as well as by their Boge brand name (same part re-branded). The attached PDF file gives detail for both...

Re: Shock absorbers
Hi Doug, They should be fine but the Haflinger won't handle quite as well as it originally did on "wash board" and uneven roads as the suspension will tend to allow more wheel hop. In the long term you'll want to keep attention to early wear in the swing axles' fulcrum pins and bushings if...

Re: Shock absorbers
Hi Doug, The original Haflinger shock absorbers were dual valve type so they dampened in both directions of shock stroke. Thus the dual valve design will maintain a neutral position provided the valve rate is balanced for both directions. Shock absorbers from an early VW Beetle are commonly used as ...

Re: Drivetrain Rattle in Neutral.
- is there such a thing as a wrong cable. Hi Garry, If your cable was supplied by one of the Haflinger parts dealers it would not be too short unless you have a 703 (LWB) Haffy. On the other hand, if your cable was made up or repaired by a local shop then it could easily be too short. Another possi...

Re: Front End Knock
Hi Garry, I took my dodgy CV joint apart and gave it a flushing out and re-greasing. The old grease was mostly dried up and there was a lot of very fine grit inside the joint. The grit may have been a combination of rust and very fine silt and sand. So much for the seals under the threaded sealing r...

Re: Front End Knock
Hi Garry,CVs are really expensive
It might not be so bad as needing replacement. Perhaps just a disassembly with thorough flushing out and re-greasing will do the trick. I'll dig my gimpy CV out of the pile to see what can be learned and let you know.
Cheers,
Steve

A nice colour for a Haflinger (not sure about plaid upholstery though) just not very Canadian, eh.
