Re: Seat colour

I believe some of the Austrlian Army and early Series I haflingers sent to Australia had the olive green vynil seats as well. Indeed I have some old examples. However Ive looked hard at finding new vynil to make new covers, but cant find anything close. Does anyone know of anywhere that can supply t...

Re: Body off restoration starts today!

Thanks Julian I didnt mean to cast any doubts about 2-pack, its just that I put a lot of effort into replicating originality (factory-fresh as a model), and I think the enamel was originally less shiny than what Ive achieved. But thats me being picky. 2-pack will be far more durable, and perhaps tha...

Re: Who Can Rebuild and ReJet a Zenith Carby In Sydney or Ne

Hi Garry Carburettor Service Co. in Burwood (Sydney) have re-built 4 Zenith and 2 Weber Haffy carbys for me, and have gotten to know them quite well. They have rebuilt haffy carbys for others as well. They have Fuel Miser kits for the Zenith (or at least they did as of a couple of years ago). They h...

Re: Body off restoration starts today!

Hello Julian You have a great body to work with, given its such an early model. Have you put much thought into the type of paint that you will be using? I went through the same process myself for my 63 model having to find the correct colour (similar to Reseda Green). In the end we had to colour mat...

Re: Ebay Sellers Germany and Austria

Hi Garry I think John is right, some sellers couldnt be bothered filling out the customes declaration forms. I was in Austria a few weeks back and posted things home- quite straight forward really. Having said that, Ive only had problems with ebay sellers getting large items send to Australia, like ...

John, thanks for sharing the outing with us. You are a brave man to drive such a distance without a support crew. Perhaps your haffy has now earned the honour of being re-named!

Re: Nuts & Bolts - what plating?

Hello Julian I found the bright zinc plated hardware dulled rather quickly, so didnt look so out of place after a year or so. So I have no qualms in using them. However I quite like the original 'Bundu' bolts, which is why I went to the re-plating path. As John mentioned, there is a possibility of a...

Re: Cleaning alloy components

Hello Ive also tried a lot of solutions, with no perfect answers. For grease removal I quite like brake cleaner as well, but Ive learned to stay clear of any degreasers which contain cuastic agents (ie sodium hydroxide) as these will dull the surface of alloys even after rinse off. So stick with sol...

Re: Nuts & Bolts - what plating?

Hi Julian I purchased a zinc plating kit and replated the original hardware where it was in good condition. It can be a bit tricky, as you need to clean each piece perfectly before plating. This was for my 63 haflinger restoration, where I still had plenty of energy. Later for the army Haflinger I w...

Re: Body off restoration starts today!

Hi Julian

Thanks for the updates. What a beautiful place you live in, and Im most envious of your garage. It seems the beast is in very good condition to begin with, so hopefully you wont get too bogged down in rust repairs etc.

with kind regards

Re: Body off restoration starts today!

Hello Julian I look forward to seeing your progress with this rare model. I had a 63 right-hand-drive model re-sprayed a few years ago (and still havnt finished- but thats a long story), and im trying to think back to assist with your questions. For the windscreen removal, I gave it to a professiona...

Re: Left hand side Rear Panel

Garry Dave had the short side borads made up to suit the use of rear doors. I dont know if anyone has tried to replicate the full-length side boards with original stamped pattern (although you do see plain non-original ones around). Brad- I do have a set of full-lenght boards that you can use as a t...

Re: This one needs a bit of TLC!

Hello Jim Yes, that wasnt the Haflinger I expected to see when opening up the pic. Have you checked if the number on the side of the gearbox matches the chassis number on the ID plate? That may tell you if the tray/body is original to the chassis/drive train. Ive seen a few non-orignal SDP ID plates...

Garry. I can take some pics for you but the path of the tube is quite convoluted. Best to have a good look at a haffy in person. If you are in Sydney at any stage you are very welcome to have a look at mine. My 63 ex- Tassie hydro Haflinger has not been re-fitted with fuel tanks, tool boxes etc so t...

Re: An ancestor of the Haflinger?

Thanks for the link Julian. The pressed sheet-metal cab version has some similarities to the later Kommunal Haflinger. Perhaps this 'Raupenschlepper Ost' did provide some design inspiration for the Haflinger from the point of view of the tray and body, but Erich Ledwinka's influence is not apparent ...
