Re: Windscreen washer

Sorry, it's been "p*ssing" with rain here and I didn't feel like opening the doors on Lurch and letting allthe water in if I didn't have to. I will take a couple of photos tomorrow as the wether is supposed to be better.

Re: Windscreen washer

I'll take a photo of the one in Lurch (1973 LWB) when it's daylight and I can move all the "crap" covering it up. Basically it is a soft plastic bag fixed just the other side from the screen washer nozzels and the water is fed to the nozzels by pushing on a rubber "button / bulb"...

Re: Hemi the Haff.

My mistake, I made an assumption that you were putting your dolly under the main propshaft tube rather than holding up the Axle arms! Should work well. Thats what comes of trying to read a computer screen and drink a cup of coffee at the same time, you end up tilting your head at a weird angle to tr...

Re: Hemi the Haff.

Well done on the good idea for making up a trolley for the main tube to sit on, only issue I can see is that because hte tube is ruond and your brackets match that. What is to stop the tube rotating and ending up at some skew angle? The other two wheels? Don't forget they are on springs and dampers ...

Re: Fan Belts and Tappet Clearances

Hi Gary, The big nut on thte Dynastart fan is a standard thread. Put a rod in the hole to stop the fan from turning and then Lefty loosey, righty tighty! Cold clearances onthe tappets is 0.20mm cold for both. Contact breaker gap 0.4mm Spark plug gap is ? A quick look through the handbook did not sho...

Re: Setting up choke disc on Zenith carburettor

Have you checked, changed the main & idle jets? They can wear just throught the amount and speed of fuel going through them. The problem with a lot of haflingers is that they do not charge at 750rpm so most will have higher idle settings to the point where the charge light just goes out. It take...

Re: Setting up choke disc on Zenith carburettor

Lurch needs the choke when it's cold, but I can't say what the temperature is at that point as it's not something I have ever thought about. I just use the choke when I think it is cold enough to need it or the engine doesn't start with out it. On a long road drive I get near if not actually the 30 ...

Have you checked the jet sizes? I found the page on the 365 clubs site in the Free section listed on this page:-https://porsche356registry.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=579966&module_id=481598 and then clicking on this link on the page:- https://porsche356registry.org/content.aspx?page...

Re: New Australian.

A lot of parts are interchangable between all the versions of Haflingers. More than likely, the series 1 and the series 2 had engine failures at a time when it was easlier to get a replacement engine than to try and rebuild the existing ones. Likely at the same time they got a "new" gearbo...

Re: Lurch has electrical issues

I have put the mechanical regulator on and can confirm that the charging light now goes out as the revs rise. the charging light flickers at idle, but goes out as the revs rise. So some how I have managed to "kill" my electronic voltage regulator. Unfortunately as the electronics are "...

Lurch has electrical issues

Sorry this is a VERY long post, but maybe it will help others who face similar issues. Lurch has been getting harder and harder to start. Typical of Dynastart issues. As I haven't done the brushes for a while and as my volt meter shows 12.** volts, I assumed that the issue was either the Starter rel...

Re: Setting up choke disc on Zenith carburettor

Evening Nigel, If I remember correctly, I used the resources of the Porchce 356 clubs technical pages on setting up the Zenith cards as they are basically the same carb just with different jets fitted. I am pretty sure I put my carb together as per this exploded view diagram. https://porsche356regis...

Re: Hemi the Haff.

One step at a time works. Just remember to actually take the steps! It's very easy to put off doing something and then it does not get done. As far as I know the battery tray just slides in on the bottom of the battery tray and is held down by two "L" shaped arms which it slides under. Get...

Re: Water Ingress from the Tray

You could use Water pipe to make some bows for the back to hold a cravan type cover up so it does not let the water pool in the back. I have seen European Haf's with a tarp just streched tight in all directions on the back. That would keep the water off, but unless you parked on a slope or under a r...

Re: Water Ingress from the Tray

I park Lurch the other way round on a slope so that the cab is uphill, that way the water runs away from the cab. I also have put a removeable "A" frame over the bed on which I have a tarpaulin which keeps 95% of the rain off the bed. Tarpauin is held in place by rubber straps to keep it r...

Re: New Haflinger from France

Well done Vincent, I think you have discovered the same thing as a lot of Haflinger owners have discovered over the years. Either you have the time and the resources to work on a Haflinger full time, in which case you can get a restoreation of what ever sort you have planned to happen quickly or, as...

I hope you get an answer from someone who has one and can take picture measurements for you. As you say, it would be better to copy an original one than to make your own only to find that it looks nothing at all like the original.... Still, I suppose you could make a temporasy one whilst continuing ...

Re: Spare tire bracket?

An engine cover mounting for a spare wheel is probably something you are going ot have to make and I wonder how many would ever have been made. A SWB even with a winch could have the spare wheel under the LHS rear passanger footwell, but as you point out, if it was originally on the engine cover the...
