New member to our family, a 1966 Australian Army Haflinger and matching 1966 Army trailer, The Haflinger is is in very good condition, the only rust that i have found is in the rear seat lids the size of a thumb nail, the body has not been knocked around at all. it is missing some of the rubber straps that hold the tools on and the 2 top gun holders, if anyone has any, can you let me know, the trailer has some rust in it but is easily repairable. If anyone has any information on the Australian Army Haflinger, could you pass it on, as far as I know the Army only received 46 of these units in 1966 and would not know how many are around now.

Hi Bernard,

That is a really lovely trailer; do you know the owner well enough to ask him if he might take some measurements so that I might look to make a replica? Also, some photos showing the running gear of the trailer would be very helpful. Is the floor sheet metal or wood?

No worries if this is too much to ask,

Julian

Now where did you find that - obviously inside knowledge - great find - not many around. I suggest you get yourself up to Wodonga and have a look in the museum in Bandiana at their display items - if you ask nicely you might eve be able to have a look in the restoration workshops.

Well worth the look.

Also a few get up to the annual "Swim In" held on the Murray River at Corowa each March - you might get some information there as well.

Oops - in my post above I hadn't realised that "our family" related to Bernard's :D

But the request still stands ;)

Yes I can get you the measurements. From what i have been told the trailers were made in Austria and shipped to Australia. It has the original paint on the trailer, and there is some stencilled writing on the front of trailer which some is very hard to read, i would like to know what it says or even if someone would have a picture.

Hi Bernard, That's a beauty. the trailer is a rare find too!. My mate has a original Australian army Haflinger and so do I. I cant help with the toggle ratchet straps though! > I looked high and low on the internet with no luck. I had one original rubber strap which i took with me to Austria and showed them in the shop Autoquariet also with no luck. The strap had GTE moulded into it which is a company that make rubber components located in Europe and the UK. I also contacted them without any luck. You may be able to get a rubber company to do a run of a hundred or so. I imagine this would be expensive. I would buy 20 off you straight up! I have been fully restoring my Australian army haflinger for close to 10 years now and am getting close to completion. Here's a picture of mine. Its hanging from the roof and will soon be put back on the chassis. Ps if you do find the rubber straps let us know Cheers Dave

HI Burnard,

Do you know the ARN of your haffy? + the trailer number.

The trailers all 46 of them were made in a factory at 1097 High St, Malvern Rd in Melbourne.
This factory is now shut and turned into a multi story unit complex with trendo yuppy shops below.

Once I know the ARN' I will add to my Haffy ARN web site that I run.

I would love to get a Pic of the factory for my records.
