Spare tire bracket?

Anyone on here happen to have the original spare tire bracket that mounts the spare tire on the engine cover? I would like to make one for one of my Haffies, so if someone had one, could you take some measurements? or pictures? Thanks in advance!

No space under the platform for it? I don't know anyone who has their spare tyre mounted on the engine cover. Seen a few Hafs with the spare wheel up against the cargo barrier behind the front seats, but most have it under the platform either on the righthand side orthe lefthand side depending on if they are short wheel base or long wheel base versions. Utility versions would have the spare somewhere else depending on what they were outfitted for.

This particular Haffie had it mounted here from new. The bolt holes are present on the engine cover. Reason it cannot go under the platform is it was originally equipped with a PTO driven winch under the right side of teh platform. It is SWB.

An engine cover mounting for a spare wheel is probably something you are going ot have to make and I wonder how many would ever have been made. A SWB even with a winch could have the spare wheel under the LHS rear passanger footwell, but as you point out, if it was originally on the engine cover then that is as good a place to continue to put it.

Making a suitable bracket should not be that difficult, you have the dimensions of the bolt holes on the engine cover. A "TOP HAT" shaped piece of sheet metal to match the bolts hole and then either two / four studs to go though the spare wheel. Or you could go for a single hole and a "T" long bolt and big washer to fit in the center hole of the spare wheel. If you ever find a photo or dimensions of the bracket, please add it to this post as I would like to see it.

Oh, I fully understand that I may need to fabricate it.

as this is an early MKI, it has no space being a SWB to fit the spare in the left side. That is occupied by a storage box, jerry can, and battery box.

I know its not going to be difficult at all. But, the ask could make it much easier. Especially if someone had an OEM bracket. Angle, height, width, flange size, etc. I would rather copy the OE part if possible.

I hope you get an answer from someone who has one and can take picture measurements for you. As you say, it would be better to copy an original one than to make your own only to find that it looks nothing at all like the original....
Still, I suppose you could make a temporasy one whilst continuing to look for an original.

Ja, hopefully someone does. I posted on the Facebook page too about it, but that pages seems to be show and tell mostly and not much help for technical questions. Im sure I could make one with ease, but as you said, closer to original is better. Hell, even if I could find a picture of it that isnt just the picture in the parts catalog would be useful.

Coming in to this late so I may have missed something, but my early Mk1 (/pre-Series) is a 1962 SWB and the spare is under the LHS rear footwell. What do you have there?

Yes - I must admit I had not heard of a OEM mount for the spare on the engine cover - must be a bit heavy to lift.

thanks for posting the pics. so on the left side underneath where your picture shows a spare, that is where the jerry can goes. on the right side underneath is where the PTO driven winch would go. Im not near it right now, so cant take any pics to show it.

im sure having it on the engine lid would make it hard to lift, but hoping I dont need to lift it that often, ha

My LWB with PTO has provision for this bracket too.
There's holes in the engine cover in the right place, currently blocked off with bolts.
