Re: Front Hubs
That's the bit - I shall hang a bag of sugar on the bar mentioned as it a 1KG weigh. One the offside, i just reassembled the hub as I had not taken any of the bearings out - so hope the clearances are still the same. On the nearside, because I have had to replace ALL the bearings, i thought it bette...

Re: Front Hubs
Passenger side (near side) hub is still in pieces as we have had Shite weather the last few weekends and that is the only time I get to be able to do anything of this sort to the Haflinger. So present state is that the swivel pin bushes are in, the top Rzeppa shaft needle roller bearing is in, the o...

Re: Centifugal Air Cleaner
I have no idea what the designer(s) were thinking when they came up with the COMPLICATED / involved pipework to an air cleaner that is so far away from the engine. All the joints in the pipe work are weak points which need checking to make sure they are not leaking. My solution would be to make an e...

Re: Front Hubs
Those were my thoughts originally, but the MOT man said there was play in both front hub swivel pins that he didn't like so I had to do both. As it turns out, the drivers side (offside) also started leaking oil on the return journey so I thought I would replace the oil seals as well. Then thought as...

Re: Front Diff Lock Linkages
Gary, The issue I had with mine really boiled down to the linkages not moving the way they are supposed to. In particular item 25 (in the parts book section 8-25/0) Relay lever had seized on the shaft item 27. The pivot points item 30 also did not move very well. I checked my diff lock out by discon...

Re: Engine strip down.
I am not really in a position to say with 100% certainty that the following is going to solve the issue the two of you face but; Have looked at the exploded parts book for position of things and the various sizes being quoted, I have to assume that the end float problem originates in the position of...

Re: fuses
My Hafilinger also has two fuse boxes and none of the wiring diagrams I have seen EXACTLY match my vehicle. There was a wiring diagram posted in the UK Haflingers club magazine which is much nearer than the ones in the repair manual, but it is still not quite the same. So I believe they more or less...

Re: Engine Governor
The user manual make comment on the governor as being there to prevent Over Revving and it will do so on the flat and going up hill when the engine is pushing the vehicle, BUT won't help going down hill when the vehicle is pushing the engine! So if you believe you can keep the revs below the maximum...

Re: engine runs
There are various ways of getting petrol from the tank to the engine without getting a mouth full... Glass jar, some cling film and another short piece of pipe. Petrol pipe into the glass jar, second shorter length of tube into glass jar. Use the cling film to seal round both pipes and the glass jar...

Re: Engine strip down.
I would be loathed to do any filling of those gouges with anything other than aluminium weld. The plastic metal epoxy resin which you can buy is very good, but A): You would have to get the area very clean & dry. B): I am not sure how well it stands up to long term exposure to hot oil / temperat...

Re: How to size pictures for uploading to the forum
Is anybody else vexed by people who upload a photos which is wider than the normal width of a post? I keep having to scroll to read all the text in those posts.
I know it's not done on purpose, but it would be nice not to have to scroll to read the text or to look athte whole picture.

Re: Engine strip down.
The damage to the crank case does not look too bad in the photo. As long as the grooves do not go all the way through, you should be able to use that side. The part only really has to stop the oil from pouring out! The structural strength of the casting is in the webs which don't look damaged. If yo...

Re: Can I "degrease" the distributor?
The exploded parts diagram for the distributor is about as good as your broken piece of paper! I would hazard a guess that it is both an electrical insulator and a mechanical buffer in case the weights move out far enough to touch the casing. I doubt there will be a replacement part as it is not sho...

Re: Gear Box Jig
Very nice. I had seen this on the Yahoo site, but as you say new people might only find this site. I have to ask, why do we need to use a jig to set the gearbox up? I thought this vehicle was designed for use by the army - for whom most things have to be simple. Having to use a jig is not simple! Es...

Re: Front Hubs
Last weekend there was a reasonable day, so on with the passenger side hub. I had to use the dreaded hacksaw to get the top swivel pin bush out of the casting. The drivers side one came out with no problem using my new tool. A blind bush expanding extractor with a slide hammer. I thought it would eq...

Re: Can I "degrease" the distributor?
Julian, You can dump the distributor into a bucket of degreaser for all the damage it will do. Just make sure that it is cleaned of the degreaser afterwards. Do you have an air compressor - you could blow it dry after its bath! Just remember that the degreaser will remove all the oil / grease from a...

Re: Rust Repairs - Poor design
Gary, The pictures on the link are for the "whole" bodywork (engine bay, platform, drivers footwell) as one piece, seen from various angles. Not as helpful to you as it might be as I didn't see any close ups of the footwell. Maybe there are better photos elsewhere on that site. Like you I ...

Julian,
If you are anywhere near Pavilion Batteries in Hove, they would be my choice when I need a new battery. They have lots in the warehouse so you could pick and choose a suitable one.

I'll have a look at mine tomorrow in day light and see what markings it has on it. It might be a cross reference-able item with a manufacturer you get in the US.

I have had a look on the Yahoo site and have found this:- New '61 Austrian Top Photos - if you put this in a search you find the posts that go with the photos of the same name. It appears he has a price list and photos of what he makes, but I don't think any one has asked him if his details can be b...
