Re: Front Hubs

They are all to do with cleaning the old grease out of the Rzeppa joint - turns out you just have to wash / soak them in petrol. No other way to get in to be able to scrape the old gone solid, not removed last time type gunk! The referenced pdf shows how one person took the metal cup with the thread...

Haflinger in the Snow

Sorry, not quite what you were expecting!

I can't finish working on the front hubs as it is too cold and I don't "really" need to do the work right now. So it will have to wait until the weather improves.

I had actually hoped to be using the Haflinger in this weather! Oh the Irony!

Re: Front Hubs

Go to the Yahoo group "keeping your Haflinger alive" and in the file section are some torque tables. (I bought a workshop repair manual with the sole intention of having those torque tables only to discover they are missing from that manual as well as the first one I bought!) The only prob...

How to size pictures for uploading to the forum

This is how I do it: Down load and install a program called "paint.net" Open your photo you want to upload using Paint.net you get a screen like this: paint dot net open screen.jpg Go to the tab "Image", choose "Resize" choose the size you require (I generally use 800 p...

Re: Front Hubs

Can't do any work on my hubs as I have to work outside and it's B****y snowing! I had hoped to have the Haflinger roadworthy to be able to use it in the snow! Oh well, It will get fixed eventually! In the meant time I will just have to continue struggling with the snow in my Smart ForTwo. Actually i...

Garry, Very simple - Photoshop is a monster of a program and wants to add all sorts of extra data about itself to the picture. Download and install Paint.net - use my How to under "Random Pictures" to resize you image. (Choose pixel rather than percentage) - Just added my Avatar that way. ...

Re: wiring harness

I would hazard a guess that the other end of you "spare" red wire goes to the starter switch. The suppressor should have an earth = probably the case which is connected to the bodywork.

John
p.s. Also possible it goes to 51 on the regulator via a fuse.

Re: Front Hubs

Garry, The smooth collar just below the threads on that shaft is a push fit. Heat it carefully and you should be able to slide it off. Then the toothed gear slides off the splines on the shaft. Carefully supported, you can knock the shaft through the bearing. There is an Oil seal which needs replaci...

Re: Front Hubs

The bronze bushes you get in the kit are machined to fit the pins that come with them. If you want to change just the bushes you would have to get some which matched your "slightly" worn pins.

Re: Front Hubs

That bit as pointed out should not have a grove in it. Mine were much worse than that one! I bought new ones from HaflingerTechnik as being easier, but expensive. Now that I have the 2 old ones, I was going to see what sort of cost would be involved in getting them hot metal sprayed and then regroun...

If the forum has been setup the same way as others then the red exclamation mark in the bottom right hand corner of the post just above the "quote" button can be used to report a post.

There are different reasons available for reporting a post which you can select.

Re: Front Hubs

Top pin is pulled upwards using in theory a 7mm threaded bolt / stud. Only my one wasn't 7mm it was 8mm. Problem is most slide hammers are to big to fit - BUT - your new hole might prove to be fortuitous! I put a picture on the Yahoo group showing my use of an eye bolt, a bar and a jack. I use the j...

Wow, thanks for that. Just what is needed for the rear seat pad. Now about the other bits..... If you are in a position to do the same for the seat backs and the two front seats you will be helping not only me but all the others out there who will have to replace the seat cushions on their Haflinger...

Re: Front Hubs

Once you pull the top and bottom king pins (swivel pins) then the whole hub can just be pulled straight from the side of the Hafi - the Rzeppa joint has splines that go up the shaft in the swing arm. If you disconnect the lever system to the front diff lock and just try pushing it in by hand - does ...

Uk based supplier listing delivery to Australia - but you would have to ask for a delivery cost quote: http://mailshot.motorsportworld.co.uk/framefix.asp?ProductCode=K-80-1350&PID=18843 Then you would probably have to pay import duty or something. So I don't think you are doing too badly when yo...

Re: Haflingers at Waldersee Farm

The steering stop nuts would not be a problem as the shocks mount behind the swing arm and you just need a bush with the correct size ID for the existing stud to go through. BMW did some "Air compression" shocks which replaced standard shocks with coil over springs at one point in the hist...

Re: Front Hubs

Does the lever actually move the pin in and out of the diff? On mine the funny "H" shaped intermediate lever system had seized and my front diff lock would not engage. If you do have to take the diff to pieces, just remember to drain the oil and keep the drain plug OUT. The magnet on the t...

Re: SDP Logo

New logo looks nice but on my system it is too wide. I see the start of the "n" in the right hand most Haflinger. In other words it is as wide as the logo in the thread but that is wider than the "normal" thread width. Minor detail really, but I thought I would point it out. John

Re: Front Hubs

Curing that particular leak is only an oil seal BUT if you have the same outlook on this as me, you will end up replacing a lot more because it is worn and you don't want to have to take it apart AGAIN! Check the swivel pins for wear before you take it apart i.e. jack up and rock the wheel and see i...
