Re: Another Haflinger for Ebay auction in Australia
Hi Garry Yes, that figure of $3540 surprises me too. Ive seen others in similar condition but complete with motor go for between $5000 and $6000, so that sale on ebay a couple of weeks ago is about right, I think. However Im convinced that if your into restoring, getting hold of more expensive but g...

Re: An ancestor of the Haflinger?
Julian, thanks for the translation. For something designed to be used on the eastern front, you would think it would at least have haflinger-type framed canvas doors. It would have been awful through one of those long russian winters, although if I recall what my grandfather told me, the troops were...

An ancestor of the Haflinger?
Last week I had the pleasure of again visiting the Military History Museum in Vienna, the Heeresgeschichtliches. There in the WWII exhibition hall I found this lovely creature, built by Steyr-Daimler-Puch. There is a certain similarity to the later Haflinger in its utilitarian lines. You could have ...

Re: My son's first ride in a Haflinger
Hi Jim Thanks for that pic. Ive got an early 63 Haflinger with the remains of the exact same sheetmetal canopy and hard doors. Do you know who made the canopy and how many might have been made. Next time Im out at my hangar, Ill take some photos of this canopy. Its nice to see a photo of how it look...

Re: fuses
Hi Dave Just following on, my Australian Army Haflinger, which is wired similarly to the later civilian models (duel fuse boxes), uses only a single 15A fuse (black) on the headlight circuit, and all others are 8A (white). Everythings works well and as it should. Thats not to say its the original fu...

Re: fuses
Hello Dave Ive checked an early copy of the handbook, the Australian Army issued handbook, and a late handbook and none of them are specific about what capacity fuses for each circuit, only that 8 and 15 amp fuses are used. Ill have a look at the army haffy to see if I can discern any differences in...

Re: For the Aussies - Haflinger For Sale In Cairns
Hi Garry Its owned by David at Black Mamba Racing in Melbourne- he makes racing exhausts and I believe made the SS exhaust system for this Haflinger. He was assisted by Tony ex-Haflinger Sales and Service. David also sells the 'Call of the Wild' DVDs occasionally on eBay. He and Tony rebuilt my 63 e...

Re: For the Aussies - Haflinger For Sale In Cairns
Thanks Garry for pointing out the Melbourne listing. This is owned by the fellow who helped rebuild my 63 engine with forged high compression pistons. He stikes me as a perfectionist, so I expect his Haflinger to be excepional. The $25,000 price may seem high, but I certainly would not sell a comple...

Re: Headlight Replacements.
Hello Brad If you wanted to stick with the original setup- you can get all the parts from Autoquariat in Austria. I have bought from them the lenses, reflectors, surrounds, fittings, clips and foam seat. It is certainly a more expensive option than the eBay alternatives, but you do have the option i...

Re: Notice; Stowaways will be Shot!
I like the thought of cleaning out sunflower seeds better that possum faeces! I bought a 'working' Haflinger off eBay only to find possums had made a nest in the engine. The attached pics shows what remained after a thorough vacuuming. As you can see the urea has a great corrosive effect. Cheers Ric...

Re: Hi Speed Hub Gears
Hello Garry I bought a set from Robert Prokschi when I rebuilt the hubs on my 63 ex-Hydro Tasmania Haflinger. The price has risen a bit since then, but the quality was very high. You can email him directly and they would always reply in English and payment by Paypal made the whole process simple. I ...

Re: My son's first ride in a Haflinger
Correction Just re-checked my information. The early Series I haflinger sent to Moffatt Virtue, the first imported to Australia, was chassis 5350104 and built on 24 November 1959. Apparently one on the first 130 built. Earlier I attributed this chassis number to a 1962 Haflinger, the first sold by A...

Re: My son's first ride in a Haflinger
Hi Jim Thanks for clearing that up with HOH, as first imported by AFB but not first sold by them. It would be great if it re-appeared again- Im sure it will turn up eventually. Your father has a wealth of knowledge about Haflingers in Australia- would he be willing to put his recollections to paper?...

Manly Searchlight Outing
Hello Yesterday I attended a gathering of military vehicles and the firing up of two WWII era searchlights for the anniversary of a Japanese midget submarine raid on Sydney Harbour in 1942. It was held at the North Head Fort on the nothern Headland of Sydney Harbour, where an artillery unit was base...

Re: My Haflinger has arrived..
Mike I dont know if my Antipodean details are of any use, but my Pathfinder was built in May 1972, sent to Australia in May 1974 to the local importer, and first sold 'new' in Tasmania in 1976 (previous owner suggested last one sold as a new car in Australia). The registration Papers say 1976. So sh...

Re: Scissor jack?
That interesting jack for the Bantam seems to be held in a bracket under the dash. In my AU army haflinger, it is where the trenching tool is kept. Also, the external light plug- is that a common feature of Swiss Army Haflingers? All the Austrlian Army Haflingers had them too- ive attached a pic wit...

Re: Pinzgauer 712M for sale on Australian Ebay site
Thanks Garry Very kind of you to chase this up. Constantin picked this as a later Haf- he has a very keen eye! Yes, Ive used that bit of research to help with the Register. A great resource indeed. There is also a table of Puch scooters (RL and SR) used by the Australian Army in the 1950's- for scoo...
