Re: Haflinger "mileage" indication. What's "normal."

My Pathfinder first sold in 1976 has 21,530 kms (high for a Haflinger), but she was very well cared for by the one proud owner and shows no real sign of wear. I only recently fitted a new set of 80.0 rings to the original pistons! Contrast this to my ex-Hydro Tasmania 1963 Haflinger with only 5756 m...

Re: My son's first ride in a Haflinger

Hello Jim It great that you have these photos all those years on. Ive been in touch with a fellow in South Australia who is restoring what he says is the first Haflinger sold in Australia by Anti Friction Bearings (AFB). He has been given the records of all the imports into Australia, which would be...

Re: Pinzgauer 712M for sale on Australian Ebay site

Yes Constantin, quite right. The tool holders are still available from Haflinger Technik (though with shorter straps), so it could be done. My army Haflinger came with the late model guards as well, as you helped find the earlier short ones for me. Garry, don't suppose you have any close ups of that...

Re: Pinzgauer 712M for sale on Australian Ebay site

Thanks Garry Yes, I mean the one next to the Pinz. I thought this colour was a bit too bright for the original hew- but Im glad to be corrected. I only know of one Hafinger still wearing its factory paint- and thats owned by a fellow named Peter in Queensland (previously owned the last President of ...

Re: Pinzgauer 712M for sale on Australian Ebay site

Hello Garry That nice pic you took at Corowa in 2011- do you by chance know who owns the army haffy on the right (the US Army olive green)? Im finalising the register before it goes live in a few weeks time. I originally thought it is owned by a fellow named Charles D in Sydney, but just looking at ...

Re: Pinzgauer 712M for sale on Australian Ebay site

Hello Dale

I went to the Menangle Steam Museum open day yesterday as saw a modified 700APT with a Toyota 700 air-cooled 2 cylinder engine. See pics below. The fellow bought it modified this way some 10 years ago from the Bilpin area, and was originally yellow. Is this the one?

cheers

Re: Pinzgauer 712M for sale on Australian Ebay site

Hi Garry Yes, thats it. Although I recall the shed was packed tight so had to breath in to get to it. Thats an army haflinger trailer- ive subsequently tried to make contact with the owner via the museum to see if the fellow would sell it, but no responses thus far. I recall he was happy for us to m...

Re: Pinzgauer 712M for sale on Australian Ebay site

Im planning to take my Army Haflinger to the Menangle Steam Museum open day this saturday or sunday (goes over the weekend)- I can ask around if anyone knows of the Haflinger Garry mentioned. I have seen a beige Series II Haffie in one of the sheds there, but thought it was original. There are other...

Re: Hauling a Haflinger

Thought this pic might be of interest- its from Markus' blog (the chap who got this forum established). He picked his ex-Austrlian Army Haflinger up from Cessnock, about 2 hours north of Sydney, so quite a long drive home with this beast on the back of the ute. Would have made quite a sight. Cheers ...

Re: Pinzgauer 712M for sale on Australian Ebay site

Hello Dale Sorry to hear you were forced to part with your loved one (the Haffie I mean)! I cant say I recall a Haffie here in NSW with that particular conversion- Constantin keeps in touch with a lot of Australian Haflinger owners (goes by Pathfinder700AP on this site), perhaps he knows of it. I kn...

Hello Garry. Congratulations. Its no small feat getting a haffy roadworthy and registered, and you have been tenacious, resourceful and determined. Im pleased too as we have another roadworthy Haflinger in our midsts, and improves the chances to draw folks together for another Oz Treffen. Well done....

Re: Where was my Haflinger Made

Hi Garry

This also tells you it originally had the Zenith carby, not the Solex (if I recall was what you now have fitted).

I guess the limited ADR rules apply to your beastie then, being manufactured post May 1972.

cheers

Re: Reverse Light Switch

Hi Garry Have you had a chance to get the Wagenstammkarte from Haflinger Technik yet and able to get the manufacturing date? The reason I ask is that if your Haflinger was built prior to May 1972, the Australian Design Rules wont apply. Ive bought and sold a few Series II Haflingers and thus far the...

Re: Choke

Hi Garry I wonder if this helps explain why you had those exhaust issues. I there was a non standard inlet manifold (???) to accommondate the Solex carby, meaning the exhaust manifold will be out of usual alignment, resulting in your muffler being out of alignment. If ultimately you did want to go b...

Re: What's the weakest point of a Haflinger?

My only wish would he that the vehicle better accommodate taller people. As it is, if I sit up nice and straight, my eye line is directly at the level of the top of the window frame. This promotes bad posture, as I have to hunch down to get clear vision- and I'm only 6ft tall!

Re: Engine strip down.

Hello Julian Yes, the early 63 Haflinger does have the 2 removable side covers, however it does not have the fire wall access holes to the top of the check straps, so someone cut them in. This one also has the stamped sheet metal engine sump guard, as opposed to the later tubular type. With regards ...

Re: Engine strip down.

Hi Julian Both my 1963 Haflingers have their voltage regulators in the same place as all the later models. I wonder if the 1962 Indonesian Army Haflingers had theirs in the early or later locations, as I'm guessing 1962 was the cross over year for moving the voltage regulator. Also, my early 1963 ci...
