Re: Australian Army Haflinger Restoration

Thanks Steve, very kind. Indeed the next project is one I've been working on for the last 5 years- a complete restoration of a 1963 Haflinger used by the Hydro electric commission in Tasmania. They used to helicopter these into remote places to survey new dams etc. They originally had 4 of them, but...

Re: Beige Haffie Paint Code

(who can supply call of the wild DVDs ) Rick What the ones copied off a doco on Channel 7 and then flogged off for $20 a pop plus postage - not bad money if you can get it. Thanks Rick - I think I will just colour match what I have and just paint complete panels as needed - they are all small so no...

Re: Beige Haffie Paint Code

Garry I recall Dale Harrison from Haflinger Technik saying that the RAL codes are not a perfect match for the Haflinger colours. I was trying to find a light green for a 1963 Haflinger, and the RAL 'Reseda Green' was close but not close enough. His suggestion at the time was to colour match to a par...

Re: Canvas Top

I have found the contact details for a person making canvas hoods and door skins- in Austria. His name is Dr Peter Gutman. I can PM his contact details for anyone wanting them. He can send the doors skins, but warns they are difficult to trim and preferes to be sent the doors frames to skin them him...

Re: Beige Haffie Paint Code

Hi Garry From memory someone quoted the RAL number a while ago on the Yahoo haflinger site. You might have to trawl back a bit to get that one. I believe the original paint was an enamel. I went down the paint matching path- and regretted it (or I should have found someone more competant at it). Goo...

still in the family- Puch RL125

Hello Im just in the final fine-tuning phase of a resortation project that has taken about 2 years. Its a 1954 model Puch RL125, 3 speed 2-stroke scooter. This is an early example of the type. This was a full restoration. These were quite common in Australia in the 50's and 60's, with dealerships sc...

Re: 3 Haflingers found

Nice work tracking these down Dave. I recall seeing a factory figure of 740-odd Haflingers exported to Australia (I think Constantin's website), so there must be a lot of them ferreted away on properties around the country. Perhaps they are not a rare as we might think. Its a fair bet that most are ...

Re: Canvas Top

Dave Yes, of course you are welcome to borrow the doors frames for use as templates. I would suggest you would have a few takers for frames if you wanted to get some extras done. Ive only seen these skinned in either an olive green or black canvas (but thats not to say there wernt other shades or co...

Re: front doors and rear sides with doors

Hi Shawn. I was lucky and picked up a full set of 4 doors and a sloping hood from the Austrian eBay site. I recall I was watching for a year or so, but it paid off in the end. The trick is getting the seller to go to the hassle of posting such a large bundle to you. Maybe that might work for you. Go...

Hey Gary. There is a good business idea with export opportunities. Perhaps boost our sad manufacturing industry ( or outsource it to China). Rick

Re: Canvas Top

Hello Gary I dont know anyone here in Australia making hoods or hood sticks & bows, just individuals getting hold of templates and making copies as suggested by Constantin. I did that recently with 'bug-eye' pathfinder I have (see pic below) where I was lucky enough to have the tattered original...

Re: Any ideas for paintwork conservation?

gentlemen Thanks to you all for your thoughts and ideas. I'll let you know how I get on. Some time over the coming year I will overhaul the engine on this one. I'm told it's never had any major work done on the engine and still has its original pistons and rings. A few other projects to complete fir...

Re: Rust Repairs - Poor design

Hello Gary I wonder if the designers/engineers ever contemplated enthusiasts some 40 to 50 years later endeavoring to keep the vehicles in good order. 10 years military service may all that they were aiming for. You seem to have had rust in all the usual places. The tin shield protecting the acceler...

Re: Any ideas for paintwork conservation?

It is a labor intensive proccess but I have been successfull at taking rock chips out of 100k+ cars with zero signs left of the offending mark. Great! Thanks for that. It will be quite a painstaking task, but there is no easy way around it. Otherwise the paintwork will continue to deteriorate. The ...

Any ideas for paintwork conservation?

Hello Hoping please someone may have some ideas as to how to conserve the paintwork of a very original 1973/74 Haflinger 700APT that has sufferred a bit of surface corrosion. See photos below. Thankfully this 4-door Haflinger has been garaged all its life, and so there is no serious rust- only surfa...
