Re: Front Hubs

Don't forget the oil seal at the outboard end of the swing arms - thought I had a hub leak but it was diff oil coming out of the end of the swing arm to the inside of the hub. Good luck with it - I am about to start putting my hub back together and do the king pins. But first I need to take the stee...

Thanks Button

Is it possible to put a Thanks button attached to posts. Instead of putting up a new post saying just "thanks" you would hit the button and at the bottom of the post appears a "Thanks" line with those people have hit the thanks button.

Cheers

Re: UK MOT - Insurance issue

Thankfully in the Australian Capital Territory where I live (is like the District of Columbia in the USA) there is no annual equivalent of MOT - only on first registration or re-registration. The point you raise is valid and we have the same issues but in reality is not an issue unless your insuranc...

Re: Rust Repairs - Poor design

Thanks for all the comments. Rick - I didn't realise the rod that is connected to the accelerator had a cover over it - certainly the bit is quite robust and I guess not really needed. I will file that point away to have a look at later. As far as the side rail goes I did not even notice it until I ...

Re: Rust Repairs - Poor design

Here is a pic where the side rails join - it on the drivers side and you can see the difference in profile. It goes all the way to the rear corner where the original profile continues across the rear. The passenger side has the original profile. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e334/gazzz21/Forum%2...

Re: Rust Repairs - Poor design

I know what you mean about rust in the UK - I lived there for a year in 1983 and drove around in a rusty Renault that went to the breaker when I left. I also bought a Jag to bring back with me and it had a bit of rust in it - indeed I still own it and it still has the same rust in it - it stopped ru...

Rust Repairs - Poor design

The longer I have owned my Haffie the real condition is starting to become clear. I cut out some rust in the platform outer rail yesterday and noticed that its height reduces by about 3mm just behind the cab - so it looks like the platform was rusted out and new piece was added in but they got the s...

Re: Any ideas for paintwork conservation?

The other thing Rick - do not polish etc until you do the repairs as it will make it harder to remove when you do the touchup. As you would appreciate the high level of UV in the Aussie sun is bad news on paint so once you have made the repairs you want I would give the car a good wax with a high qu...

Re: Any ideas for paintwork conservation?

Hi Rick - where do you find all these vehicles :) I find touch up paint or respraying small sections. I would be cleaning out the surface rust in the scratches and then touching it up with paint to the point that it overfills the scratch and then carefully sand down with about 1000 wet and dry - the...

Re: Torque Tables

On the subject of manuals - I have the 1962 version with other information added like that listed above. I have been doing work on my front hub and find the manual lacking in detail and is difficult to read - I appreciate others may find it most suitable but I do have issues with it. Is there a late...

Re: Front Hubs

I have had the opposite problem - has been up to and over 40°C most of this month so too hot to work outside - working on the hubs on the dining room table is not a good idea. Was only 33 today so managed to dissemble the hub today - put in a new wheel bearing seal and need to torque up the castle n...

Avatar Pic Size

I want to put an Avatar Pic for my posts. Needs to be 60x60pixels but less that 6kb (this one of the most restrictive sizes I have come across). I have been trying to reduce a pic I have to below 6kb but even using photoshop I cannot get it below 12kb - no issue with 60x60 but the I cannot get down ...
