Re: Reverse gear.

Thanks. I wasn't that serious about tracks. I have managed to get the gear lever mechanism working and it is selecting reverse, not that smoothly but at least I know that the gearbox reverse is working. Using a variety of spares acquired from Haflinger Technik, including MK1 and MK2 bits I have been...

Re: Reverse gear.

Thank you John, where do I post with the results of the continuing saga of the registration? Maybe someone is interested. With regard to the gear shift lever mechanism, I went to Southampton and visited Darren with his early Austria Army Haflinger Mk1. We went through the differences between the MK1...

Re: Reverse gear.

Hi John. Firstly, my Haflinger was made on the cusp of MK2 manufacture, so it has several Mk1 parts "used up " on it. So this is one of the cases. The gear lever mechanism is mainly Mk1 and also bodged by a previous owner. I only had Mk2 parts pictures so it baffled me for a while, then wh...

Re: Reverse gear.

So the saga of my reverse gear problems continue. I have now been underneath several times and disconnected the rod at the rear, checked any play in the connecting bolts etc. After which I tackled the front of the rod, disconnected it from the gear lever, checked there was a bush inside the hole for...

Re: Engine V Belt Pulleys

Hello Garry, Yes I live 12 miles, well 11.6 miles according to Google Maps. 12 miles would put me in the Solent, directly south of Hambledon, "Home of Cricket" It's a small world. I,m very close to having a drive round the block for the first time in my Haflinger. I had to adjust my belts,...

Re: Engine V Belt Pulleys

On commercial Hovercraft, we used Belt Dressing. They are subject to sea spray etc.
WD-40 do a product -Auto motive belt dressing. Be sure to check that the product is compatible with the type of belt material.
Might be worth a try.

Reverse gear.

Now I have the Haflinger all back together, engine running and most control systems operating, I thought I would drive it out of the garage, to check clutch and brake operation etc. Unfortunately I could not engage reverse gear. All forward gears go in no problem. Reverse is over to the left and pus...

Uk Registration.

Having nearly completed the restoration/rebuild ( not sure of the correct terminology), I wish to apply to to register the vehicle and get a date related number plate. I am sure the Haflinger was registered some time ago. There is evidence of UK size number plate screw holes on the body work. Also t...

Re: Zenith carb problems.

Thanks John, very helpful. I managed to order the bits I needed from Classic Carbs UK. I have installed the original fuel filter with a new element. I have found in the past with garden machinery maintainance and carb problems that aerosol carb cleaning spray is vary efficient. helps take off the ol...

Zenith carb problems.

Having only run the engine for 5 minutes after rebuild, I was pleased it ran reasonably well. So I thought I would put the new fuel lines and filter in place. I passed the line from the tank (8mm i/d) through he bulkhead having removed the carb for better access. Filled up the filter with fuel and f...

Re: Front Seats - Alternatives

Oh yes, I like those Porsche seats. With regard to the head room, as I made the front and windscreen ,I added a couple of inches on the height from original measurements, to allow for my "extra" height . I have still to make the roll bar and pipe work, then get a hood made to suit.. Not qu...

Re: Front Seats - Alternatives

Hi Garry, I did think about what front seats to put in my Haflinger. I only had one frame and very tatty upholstrey. So I did research on the internet and found that forklift truck seats were available in different types. Simple base and sometimes with built in lap belts. Also similar were mobility ...

Re: No spark.

Yes, Thanks Garry and John. I fitted a new rotor arm renewed the insulation on the 4mm bolt that goes through the metal Bosch distributor casing and renewed the strip of insulation that separates the contact breaker arm from the Dist. body. Then I had a fine fat spark. connected up the plugs and the...

No spark.

Moving on from the Brake master cylinder issue. I bought a battery (60 amp Hour, as I seem to recollect a 55 was recommended), connected up the Loom to the dash panel wiring. No power, so I went back to the forum and checked out earthing problems. I had put both earths from the dyna start to the bod...

Re: Brake Master cylinder.

Well, at last the brakes are working. Although I have not moved the vehicle out yet but after fitting a new ATE master cylinder, all was well with the bleeding operation, and the brake pedal operating as it should. Thank you John for the link. I have used Machine 7 before and can recommend them for ...

Re: Brake Master cylinder.

Hello, Today I think I made some progress with the Master brake cylinder saga. I did strip it down again on the bench and compared side by side the old and the new. - See photos, the old parts are on top. It was obvious then that the seal/spring cap on the residual pressure check valve, was differen...

Re: Brake Master cylinder.

Hi John, I have taken the cylinder apart and found nothing untoward.See photo. Back together, I rigged it in the vice with outlet pipe into jam jar and Resovoir and fill pipe fitted, 4/5 pumps on the piston and it locked up only to allow the 10 mm movement again, same problem, took the fill pipe and...
