Re: Fulcrum pins

Thanks Garry, yes its a vehicle that has had a hard life and also stood around for many years. I found a previous post of yours with the list of videos by Prokshi and they are all very informative. Its all a bit disconcerting at present as I have bits with various workshops and they are either closi...

Re: Fulcrum pins

Yes John, never mind , I'm sure we and the Haflingers will meet up sometime in the not to distant future. I have been thinking maybe to use new similar replacements, to put a grease nipple on the slotted end of the fulcrum pin, an angled or 90 degree one should fit without fouling the clutch housing...

Re: Fulcrum pins

Ok Thanks John. I did use the dremel to cut off the pin as the shaft of the tool would just fit inside the groove in the clamp bolt slot so the pin is cut off inside there. Then I drilled out to 10mm.But the "helicoil" is wound out and jammed in this area. Yes I am ashamed of what a mess I...

Re: Fulcrum pins

So still finding the two problem fulcrum pins , well a problem! The last engineers I took it to welded a fitting on the pin to enable a better purchase for undoing. They would not risk doing the job and gave it back to me with a repair to the alloy casting!?!. So after another week of soaking in a W...

Re: Governor shaft.

I have taken out the valves and found some play in both exhaust valve guides. Also the seating on the faces was very bad. I intend to get new guides and valves. They are the more recent type with 3 rings on the top. An update on the 3 remaining fulcrum pins that are very reluctant to be removed, wel...

Re: Governor shaft.

Yes thanks John. I did figure out that it must be centrifugal force, the steel pin fits neatly inside the shaft but not sure which way round. I have taken the heads off the engine and the barrels followed. Surprised me that no gaskets involved. Baffled for a moment on how to get the push rods out. R...

Governor shaft.

Whilst awaiting on various other items to be sorted out , I have been stripping the ancillary items on the engine. I took apart the governer for cleaning and checking inside. When I took off the pulley and pulled out the shaft, a small rod fell out, see photo . it seems to fit inside the main shaft ...

Re: Fulcrum pins

Hello. Awaiting progress report from the engineers about the fulcrum pin removals. It won't be spark erosion, as they quoted around £500 for 3 pins. I realise after taking off the 4 stud back plate that the hub would move around a bit. So having read the workshop manual again, and John's advice, I h...

Re: Fulcrum pins

Somethings I forgot to mention. I am confident the king /swivel pins are good , no wear and plenty grease. In 2 instances there has been oil leaking from the 4 bolt plate inboard of the hub , behind which is an O ring. It could look like the main shaft oil seal is leaking at this point. The universa...

Re: Fulcrum pins

Thanks again. Today progress was very good and with help from another pair of hands I managed to get the hub off then the king pins out and with the u/j pulled off, and then the swinging arm removed no problems. I have another worry that the 4 stud wheel flange on both front axles is slightly loose ...

Re: Fulcrum pins

Thanks again John, I have loosened the bolts on the "yoke" above the housing that holds the pins and the housing is ready to take off the diff casing. This is easier here because there is no diff lock mechanism or lever protruding like there was on the near side back , RHD. Next I have rem...

Re: Fulcrum pins

Well slow progress with the fulcrum pins. although I have managed to get one out. Since when I have found one on the front that is turning with the swinging arm. So I am gearing up to have a go at that one. They seem to rust solid in the section with the thread. I tried drilling them, they are very ...

Re: Steering mechanism stiff.

Thanks John. I have had to grind/cut off all the old adjusters- steel in ally again. I have a set of the new 12mm type. They are from Autoaquriat. with a spring washer and 12mm thin nut. I have cut a slot in the end so that I can loosen the nut and turn the adjuster with a hefty screw driver to the ...

Re: Steering mechanism stiff.

Thanks Rick, that gave me a bit more of an idea of what I am dealing with. I don't have access to a hydraulic press so I rigged up the steering column and ally casting on the bench securely. I drilled a 5 mm hole where each bearing/bush was located. and lubricated with plus gas. these holes can be b...

Steering mechanism stiff.

Seasons greetings to everyone. An update with the rebuild in Southern UK. Still waiting for the drag link socket to attempt getting the fulcrum pins out . So no progress there. But have had the floorpan shot blasted and primed. See picture. Also Trying to tackle the pedal and steering mechanism. I m...

Re: Fulcrum pins

Hello . Yes John the Drag link socket is 1/2 inch standard socket size. I,m may try my impact driver, but will need to support the ally casing in a way to minimise damage. I have found that the Autoquariat web site is well illustrated and helping me learn about the parts. I suspect my fulcrum pins w...

Re: Fulcrum pins

Thanks everyone for suggestions and links. I have ordered a Proto J5444A Drag link socket that looks like it might do the job. Its just over size but I should be able to grind it down. I have cramps so will try that idea. Been busy getting the floor pan ready for shot blasting. See attached picture ...

Re: Fulcrum pins

Thanks John. Not having seen them out and finding the parts manual not that easy to figure out, I am still not sure what I will find if they come out. You say they are adjusters, are you referring to the fulcrum pins with the slot on the outer surface? If you turn them less than 360, then the clamp ...

Fulcrum pins

A two week break away from the Haflinger challange. Now back to the removed Swinging arm with the intention of taking out the fulcrum pins and replacing whats needed. Now one of the pins is turning with the swinging arm and the other is staying still with the ally casing , neither want to come out. ...

Re: oil seals and gatters cont,

Yes John thanks for that, whilst making up the plate for pulling off the swinging arm leaving the shaft in place, I remembered I had a puller that might do the job. Once the joint where the flanges of the diff casing and the side plate had opened, the puller gently took the swinging arm and diff pla...
