Newbie looking for parts to fix up a neglected hafi

I have recently acquired this neglected and or scavenged Hafi. It is missing some parts ( probably more then i even know) anyways.

The following are the main things i need to get started

1. Coil, cap, rotor , plugs, wires
2. Complete exhaust
3. Brake fluid ( its not the same as normal cars ?)
4. All cables

Because i have no idea if this will ever run, I would rather keep to a low budget for now... so if you have some known useable bits in your stock piles please let me know

Thanks
Jay

Hi Jeff,

Brake fluid is just normal DOT4 - As everything is going to be rusty / stuck. Dismantle everything and clean before trying the brakes. It will save you a lot of effort to know what works and what does not on the bench. Flexible hoses can be a pain - they can appear to be good on the outside, but be de-laminated internally, turning in to one-way valves! Push on brake pedal, brakes go on, but then do not come off cleanly.

Hope you can find the other bits S/H locally.

John

Welcome to the Forum, Jay. Looks like a very nice base for a bit of TLC. Not sure if there are (m)any Canadians on this site, but there are several US owners who may be able to help. Meantime, have a look at the forum > Documentation > Cross Reference Lists as you might be able to find non-original parts for the distributor & plugs etc locally and more cheaply.

Keep us updated with how you get along,

Hi Jay and welcome to the forum and Haflingers.

They can be both a joy and frustration - work through each issue in turn and I am sure we can help as you go through them like - answering issues like what brake fluid to use.

Most of my parts come from Haflinger Technik in Scotland - I am a lot further away from them than you - they have served me well and I am sure they can help you with bits as you need them - there are other good suppliers as well so use this forum resource as much as you can to help you progress and we will also learn from you.

Great to have you onboard.

Garry

Jay,
Congratulations on your find. Looks like and interesting project.

There is a very active and steadily growing Haflinger community all along the northern Pacific coast from BC to northern CA. Several of us in the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA area have been able to amass an excellent stockpile of used and some new parts. This includes some body parts as well. In fact, we just had some body parts and engine tin arrive from Hawaii earlier this week. Contact me via the Northwest MogFest website or via the Waldersee Haflinger Rescue Ranch FaceBook page.

I know of three Canadian North American "bug eye" trucks that are about to be repatriated back to Canada after a few short years in Portland.

All the best in your new endeavor.

Take care.
